History:

Patrick T. Doody began his musical career in 1984 as a freshman in the Andrew High School marching band. All credit to formal and rudimentary training, goes to his school drum line and summer camps with the Rosemont Cavaliers and Illianna Lancers Drum Corps. Patrick was introduced to drumset under the guidance of first private instructor, Scott Bonshire. Performing as a sophomore in the high school varsity jazz band, the schools finale concert featured guest artist and trumpet great, Stan Mark. Mark, who had previously worked in Maynard Fergussion’s band with drummer, Gregg Bissonette (Session Ace, Toto, Steve Lukather, David Lee Roth), gave Patrick great words of encouragement to seek music as a profession. Mark shared stories of having worked with icon drummer, Steve Gadd, whom at the time Patrick sites as being the most influential player to him.

In early 1985, Bonshire recommended to seek private lessons from Les DeMerle (Manhattan Transfer, Harry James), whom at the time was living and teaching privately in the Chicagoland area. Under DeMerle’s direction throughout his high school years, Patrick received a scholarship to the University of Eastern Illinois, where he attended the first annual United States Percussion Camp. There he met and studied with session great Ndugu Chancler (Michael Jackson, Santana) and percussion guru Johnny Lee Lane. He attended the percussion camp each year thereafter, until graduating high school in 1987.

After graduation, he started playing full time within the Chicago blues music scene. While performing at “Andy's” Jazz room with blues great B.B. Odem , Patrick was asked to return to meet one of the house drummers, Paul Wertico (Pat Methany Group), whom at the time was accepting a few new students. He subsequently spent the summer under the guidance of Wertico's vast jazz knowledge. It was after receiving a phone call in 1992 from the Mapex Drum Company, that Patrick was chosen as a finalist in their Billy Cobham Drum Solo contest. "Mapex sent me out to meet Billy where he was doing a guest appearance and clinic for a Stanford University’s jazz camp. We got together for a couple of hours in the morning and the afternoon, for a week. I was honored to have that kind of opportunity."

In 1994 blues icon Lonnie Brooks (a.k.a. Guitar Jr.) recruited Patrick for what would turn out to be a 10 year position in the band. "It was great. It was the first time I had the opportunity to do some serious touring. People all over the world have a natural love & respect for the Blues style. At that time, there was a surplus of blues work available in Chicago, I was fortunate enough to be "let in" so to speak, to learn, study and develop my style inside that Chicago Blues Roundtable."

In 1995 Patrick formed Drumhead Productions along with PD Recording (later changed to Drumhead Recording), the name of his full-time home studio.

Since then, he has written and released two instructional text/cassette packages entitled, "Foundations Volume 1" and "Foundations Volume 2". These packages mainly focus on building drum technique.

Also available is, “Blues Foundations Volume 1”, an instructional play along for drummers to understand and play various grooves in the blues/R&B genre. The instructional CD features performances by.... Johnny B. Gaden (Albert Collins, Blues Icon), Dave "Biscuit" Miller (Lonnie Brooks), Mark Epstien (Johnny Winter Group), Ron Anaman (Trillion), Doug McDonald (Albert King), Rusty Hall (Lonnie Brooks), Don Griffin, Barkin Bill (Delmark Recording Artist), Jody Noa, (Chicago Harp Master) Vino Louden (Koko Taylors Blues Machine), Big Time Sara (Delmark Recording Artist), Nellie Travis, Eric Jackson, and a host of other blues greats.

Patrick along with Lonnie Brooks bandmate, Dave Biscuit Miller released an instructional audio package for blues bass guitar called, "Feel The Blues".

Originally released in 2004, Patricks along with Mike Scheibinger produced..."Blues Loops Volume 1" and "Blues Loops Volume 2", which was a drum library of 1000's of drum loops created for Sony (Sonic Foundry).

Through 2005-2006 Patrick produced an extensive catalog of music for Karaoke corporation "All Hits”.
